Re: does HA/DRS require vcenter to be up

Dudas nic teaming: IP-Hash y physical NIC load (LBT)

Its an action that happens in a short span. It would not affect your environment. After you do it the warning will vanish.

How to manually recreate the VMnet

VMware workstation 9.0.0 Build 812388

I was trying to build a nested ESX5.1 and creating the additional VMnet2/3/4/5/6 and then I notice the VMnet were not created, being new to the VMware. I deleted the Vmnet0/1/8 thinking I can re-create them later. But now after almost 16hrs,

I tried :

Un-install and reinstall Vmware workstation 9

Un-install WS9 and install VMplayer

Try the rundll + vnetlib method to manual create

Try the reset to default from WS9 Virtual Network editor

Try the vmware_removal_script (clear up my companies site license)

Still the Vmnet1/8 cant be recreate and my vmhost cant connect to them. I see the Vmnet0/1/8 within the Virtual Network Editor.

Is there any method to fix this, because I cant format my machine as of now.

Thanks for any direction to be tried out.

If you want to transfer iSCSI volume to VMDK file, the Converter is capable to do this. Just run the P2V i.e. a conversion of running Windows.

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish. I do this because I want to deploy a guest where the ISO used to install the guest is much smaller than the OVA which results from exporting the already installed ISO.

Put another way, I create an OVA that contains an ISO, a minimal VMDK and an OVF file. The OVF file describes a virtual machine suitable for installing the ISO along with the path name of the ISO and VMDK. When I deploy the OVA, it creates a virtual machine with the ISO attached to the CD-ROM. When that virtual machine powers on the first time, the ISO boots and automatically installs itself. On the next boot, the guest is booted instead of the ISO image.

The only way to accomplish this AFAIK is to create an OVF file that describes what you want to do and then use ovftool to create the OVA from the OVF and ISO. The command line is: ovftool --compress=9 /tmp/foobar.ovf /tmp/foobar.ova

When the ovftool, input file and output file are all on the same machine, there is no need for any of the silliness about user IDs and credentials.

I think you are missing some things so that you can't match with vmware manual.

Thanks

it may be related to the SSO install option that you  chosen  and the fact that the group  was local not AD based so switching the local Administrators group  for an AD based group will permit you to continue the install.

Hope this will help and answer your question

Bought Workstation 9 with 3yr support and upgrades, does this assume Worksation 10?

Hey all, my company bought a bunch of Workstation 9 licenses with 3yr support and upgrades, I assume we can then upgrade to Workstation 10 w/o addition cost?  I tried our existing license on the Workstation 10 download and it didn't work, does this mean our site admin who purchased the licensing needs to logon to their VMware account to get/generate new licenses for Workstation 10?  The "admin" is really just the accountant who purchased the original license set for the group, so I need details of how to access licenses for Workstation 10, I've never done this before so I'm looking for direction.

Or does "upgrades" not mean major revisions?  (I hope this is not the case!!)

Since Operating system ISO files are big and take a considerable amount of clusters on the hdd sometimes doing a check desk ( or a disk scan ) can fix up a corrupted ISO file . and to make sure that your ISO is not corrupted try to open it via Winrar and extract one file from it .

I guess, you don't have shared storage.

If no, please power off your virtual machine, remove that from inventory and then copy that to another storage manually.

moving OVF to new DataStore

I just exported a VM in OVF to my hard drive with plans to move the OVF to a new DataStore in another location.   When I looked at the contents of the OVF folder that was created with the export i see 3 files: an "mf" file, an "ovf" file and "vmdk".

I was told that all I need is the OVF file but that does not seem right to me.  Shouldn't I move all the files to the new DataStore so that I can import the OVF VM?

upgrading vCenter from ver5.0 to 5.1

I am considering upgrading our vCenter from ver 5.0 to 5.1.   Our ESXi hosts are all ver 5.0 also.

Here's my question.   If I upgrade vCenter do I also need to upgrade all the hosts to version 5.1?

I'm agreed with Marcelo but if you can use FC, use RDM for your virtual machine and assign your LUNs directly to the VM.

RDM has few limitation and you can use Microsoft Clustering by using RDM.
